Friable Cervix

Friable cervix is a condition of the cervix when it becomes irritable, delicate and more likely to bleed. The causes for such a condition could be general irritation or STD’s. This condition could arise due to inflammation, infection, or in rare cases early symptoms of cancer. Usually doctors use a vaginal swab to identify the cause for the condition while examining the cervix. Based on the test results, the doctor will decide on the treatment best suited for the patient. In case of any abnormalities in the readings, the patient will be advised to undergo a colposcopy to check for STD’s and HPV. During the colposcopy, the doctor will examine the cervix with a colposcope. This will enable the doctor to get a clear view of the cervix, thanks to the light at the end of the colposcope. In case the doctor notices any abnormalities, a sample tissue will be taken to the lab for further investigation.

The most common symptom of friable cervix is vaginal bleeding. Vaginal bleeding prior to intercourse or between menstruation’s should not be ignored. It is advisable to immediately consult a gynecologist. There are also symptoms like itching which should be paid adequate attention since itching could be the result of an infection or allergy. Abnormal cellular growth could also be a reason for vaginal bleeding. A biopsy of the cervix is necessary to study the abnormal growth and determine whether there is any risk for cancer. Friable cervix during pregnancy could lead to complications, such as miscarriage. More often than not, people tend to ignore bleeding issues during pregnancy. Bleeding due to infections in the urinary tract can often be misunderstood as bleeding from vagina. Bleeding in the cervix may be caused by the polyps that have become enlarged due to the hormones secreted during pregnancy. Taking birth control pills and other contraceptives must be stopped since they can aggravate the condition. The term “friable” refers to the chance of bleeding due to excessive blood in the cervix.

It is essential that women should have themselves checked for HPV before deciding on pregnancy. Although there are several methods to treat HPV during pregnancy, the amount of risks does not make it worth it to undergo these procedures. You might never be able to bear a child if your cervix becomes scarred during the course of the treatment.

Chlamydia is an STD which causes friable cervix. If neglected, the pelvic region bloats up causing excessive pain and also making you lose your fertility. This causes post sex bleeding, and womb infections which may lead to infertility. Vaginal infections with a bad odor, is caused by excessive cellular growth. Friable cervix could result from such an infection.

Vaginal bleeding post sexual intercourse, soiled underwear or soiled toilet paper, are all possible contributors of friable cervix. The other cause of these bleeding issues could be due to bleeding in the uterus. Any cervical infection can result in a friable cervix which is prone to bleeding. Regardless of all this, it is important to get yourself checked on a regular basis to make sure you do not have to experience any kind of discomfort.
